Shyamal Ram

With over 15 years of experience in the industry and more than a decade in local government, Shyamal has worked with various local government, contracting and consulting organisations in New Zealand and Australia. Roles have spanned across leadership, senior management, operations, strategy, planning, asset management, designing, construction, project management, contractor management, consulting and advisory.

Shyamal is the General Manager – Infrastructure at Waitomo District Council, where he leads a department of over 40 staff, manages an asset portfolio of over $500m, and delivers operations and capital contracts worth over $50m annually. His responsibilities include roads, three-waters, solid waste, properties, parks and reserves, and delivering essential services. In his career, he has delivered several complex projects, improvised systems, and fostered relationships with iwi and other stakeholders.

Shyamal is the recent recipient of Taituarā’s Emerging Leader of the Year award.
